Employers Honoured at the 10th Annual Smart Commute Awards

Smart Commute’s sustainable transportation leaders from across the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area gathered at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Thursday, November 24, 2016 for the 10th annual Smart Commute Awards. Smart Commute workplaces were recognized for their outstanding efforts and success in implementing the Smart Commute program and encouraging employees to explore alternative commuting options.

The Smart Commute Employer of the Year Award – Peel Region is presented to the top employer in each region implementing Smart Commute programs. Winners are selected for their achievement in the areas of commitment, leadership, innovation and results.

For example, the Smart Commute team provided unsurmountable support during our CycleLoan launch in June 2014, which today holds an impressive 128 registrants enrolled in the program.

Congratulations to IMAX Corporation for it’s Honourable Mention at this year’s Smart Commute Awards.

IMAX Corporation’s Nomination Information

Since joining the Smart Commute program in March 2015, IMAX Corporation has implemented a range of initiatives to generate awareness about commuting options at their Mississauga location (located in the Sheridan Business Park). These include designated carpool parking, launching the Smart Commute tool and creating dedicated space for Smart Commute specific information.

As part of its commitment to environmental initiatives and the well-being of its employees, IMAX Corporation launched the CycleLoan bike fleet program at their worksite, providing employees with free access to bicycles during business hours.

“Since joining Smart Commute Mississauga in 2015, the messages and programs have become a welcome part of the culture in our workplace. The Smart Commute program helps to promote our support of alternative modes of transportation and has relieved some of the pressure on our parking lot. The reduced impact on the infrastructure connecting us to the communities, from which our employees commute, inspires us to continue our efforts. The programs also promote engagement among our employees. I look forward to seeing the participation continuing to grow.”
