Active & Sustainable School Transportation (ASST) emphasizes the importance of walking, cycling, and public transit. More students using ASST means less cars on the road, less pollution, improved safety, and increased physical activity.
Smart Commute Hamilton, City of Hamilton, and local organizations work with school boards and schools to promote active and sustainable school transportation in elementary and secondary schools. Recently, the City of Hamilton, the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) endorsed the the Active & Sustainable School Transportation Charter. See the links below to learn more. A formal signing took place on Wednesday October 7th, 2015 in front of City Hall.
