Celebrate Bike Month by participating in Bike to Work Day or Bike to School Week – or both! Bike Month is celebrated from May 27 to June 30, 2019 and is your chance to try commuting in a healthy, sustainable way. Regions across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area are gearing up for a great month of biking, so why not join in the fun?
Many of our daily trips are between 0 and 5 kilometres, making them well within cycling distance. In Durham Region, 75% of trips in the morning peak period that are 2 kilometers or less are made by car, when they could be biked in under 10 minutes. Travelling by bike means you’re saving money on transit and gas, all while getting exercise and reducing your carbon footprint!
Bike to Work Day: May 27, 2019
Heading to work and want to give cycling a try? Take part in Bike to Work Day on May 27! Find a local event and ride together with your community and colleagues to work. Local events are happening across the GTHA – find yours by visiting bikemonth.ca.
Can’t cycle the whole trip? No problem! Try combining bikes and transit! All GO Transit and Durham Region Transit buses are equipped with bike racks and most GO stations have bike shelters on site. Depending on what time you’re travelling, you can also take your bike on the GO Train. Discover the facilities at your stop and learn more about cycling to GO.
