Congratulations to the three winners of the Bike to Work Day 2015 prize draw: Mark Kelley, Lynn Robichaud and Edik Zwarenstein! Each of them won a $500 travel voucher, compliments of VIA Rail Canada, just for logging their cycling trips on the Smart Commute online tool.
We streamed live tweets for Bike to Work Day on Monday, May 25 from across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Bike to Work Day is celebrated across the GTHA to encourage people to trade in their four wheels for two and cycle more often! The event kicks off Bike Month, which ran from May 25 – June 25, 2015.
Your bike could be your commute, your spin class, your express lane, your weekender and so much more!
Many of our daily trips are well within cycling distance (0-5km). Trips taken by bike save you the cost of transit, gas, parking, have zero impact on air quality and burn calories with every pedal forward. Can’t cycle the whole trip? Try mixing and matching your commute – learn more about bikes and transit.
Plus – gear up now and start your training for the TORONTO 2015 Parapan/Pan Am Games. Transportation changes will occur during the Games, and cycling may just be the best option for you! You can find out more about the transportation changes during the Games here.
There are also a number of apps and web mapping tools available that have serious pedal power, like OpenStreetMap.org. It’s a free online, editable mapping tool which allows any user to edit, update, delete or comment on areas of the map – for the entire globe! The Smart Commute tool populates off OpenStreetMap – so the more contributions, the more route options available! Learn how to use it here.
