commuter hall of fame_joyceJoyce was named NYGH’s Top Transit Commuter for 2015 this past Smart Commute Week. Here she is telling us why taking public transit makes the most sense for her.joyce statsHow long have you been taking transit for?

I’ve been taking transit to work ever since I moved downtown a few years ago.

What made you switch to public transit from your previous mode of transport?

I gave up my car when I moved to Toronto. When you live in Toronto there really isn’t a need to own a car. Taking public transit makes most sense for me.

What is your favourite part of your commute?

Not having to worry about the stress of driving is great! Instead of dealing with rush hour traffic, I now spend more time reading or sleeping on the subway.

What would you say to someone who is considering taking transit?

If you live near a subway/street car line and want to reduce your environmental impact, taking public transit is definitely the way to go.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about public transit?

I think a lot of people think taking public transit is inconvenient. There is definitely room for improvement such as expanding transit infrastructure, but transit is still a good and easy way to get around.
