Smart Commute Week 2016

Between September 19 – 25 people were encouraged to try smart travel options such as walking, cycling, transit, and carpooling while getting from A to B. Smart Commute’s goal is to ease gridlock while helping those who live or work in the GTHA save time and money. Smart Commute works toward opportunities to generate real behaviour change and multi-modal solutions for the region.

This year we introduced the Smart Commute Survey in order to collect important information for transportation planning and operations. The survey was open from September 19 – 30.

And wow was it a success! Here are the numbers:

  • 13,250 people responded
  • Over 215 workplaces participated
  • All six regions participated

Using the survey information, Smart Commute offices across the GTHA can plan and deliver customized transportation demand management solutions. Today’s information will inform sustainable travel options of tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone who participated by incorporating a new mode of transit into daily routines and to those who filled out the survey!

Congratulations to this year’s Smart Commute Week prize winners:

  • Lori Moulden, Hamilton
  • Courtney Hum, Toronto
  • Michael Lithgow, Toronto
  • Laura Hanna, Town of East Gwillimbury

These lucky four participated in this year’s Smart Commute Week Survey. They each will receive a VIA Rail travel voucher to use as they plan their next trip.

A special thanks to VIA Rail, our grand prize sponsor, who has continued their support of active and sustainable travel by supporting the Smart Commute program!
