Though our company is based in Mississauga, I was able to take advantage of Smart Commute’s carpooling opportunities. I live in Toronto but work in Oakville. Public Transit in this opposite direction and has always been difficult to take, to say the least. On average, a one-way trip (approx. 44 km) takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours due to timing of connections. This adds 3 plus hours to my day and approx. $300 in additional costs per month when not carpooling. Through carpooling, not only do I get to have a full hour of extra sleep a night, my travel time is reduced to approx. 30 minutes one way. We are also helping to save the environment. My out of pocket expenses are also reduced dramatically. This is truly a win-win situation all around.

Carpooling can effectively reduce gas emissions and help to solve the environmental problem. Moreover, inside the car, a small community makes us more sociable and thus be relaxed.

I'd like to share a short story about my carpooling experience. I carpool with a gentleman from Romania. Since the drive is somewhat lengthy, we have time to discuss our families, our work and our lives. In the last 2 years, I have learned so much about Romanian culture and language, and he has learned about Canada from me. We talk about Europe and the people there, and since I have never been there he brought me a map of the world to put at my desk so I would know more about what he was talking about. Learning about new cultures without the cost of a plane ticket is an unexpected bonus to carpooling besides saving money. I'd recommend carpooling to anyone who enjoys getting to learn more about people! It certainly makes my commute much more enjoyable.

I carpool three times a week with my colleague and we have drastically reduced our gas expenses. Not only this, but we are helping reduce our ecological footprint, get a break from driving once in a while, and have some great company on the way to work. I highly recommend carpooling!

Yes, carpooling really is the way to go, no matter what the commute distance is. I am sure there are many people in the company who are living within 5 minutes drive from each others. If they carpool (even in pairs) and choose to pick each other up from home rather than meeting somewhere, it becomes much more convenient and profitable. For example, we are carpooling from St. Catharines, which is about 80 km west of the Office each way. By carpooling, not only are we saving 160 km of pollution entering into the atmosphere per day but we are also saving money on gas, saving cost on maintaining our cars, reducing stress by alternating drivers, enjoying the view as passengers, able to leave your car at home, reducing the risk of accidents, reducing traffic tickets and we are helping to reduce traffic on the road!

I live in Markham and have worked in the City of Mississauga for the past 4 years. Driving between the two cities is over 130km /day, which is a large expense on gas and other cost. After 2 months of work, I found a few co-workers who live in Markham via Carpool Zone and we started to carpool to work together. Carpooling to work is a great way to travel, it saves you money, allows you to meet new friends, and if/when anything should happen on the road/ Hwy, your carpool buddies are there for you! GO carpool GO!

The first time when me and my carpool buddies used the carpool lane one of my co-workers thought it would be funny to stick her hand out the window and wave at all the cars who were stuck in traffic shouting out "YOU SHOULDA POOLED IT!". It was amusing to see all of them looking at us, not seeming too pleased. LOL CARPOOLING IS GREAT!

I have carpooled with a colleague in my department since the summer of 2009. It has gone so well. We always have so many things to talk about on our way to and from work; it feels less and less like a commute every day. I gotten to know my carpool buddy on a personal level and appreciate her company.

I never really thought about carpooling until one day when I noticed my monthly gas bill exceeded my monthly car payments. I first joined my carpool when I noticed this website advertised on my company's newsletter. From that point, it took me less than a day to organize a carpool event with 2 other committed individuals who lived near me, and were travelling the same direction I was headed. Within a day we quickly got together and started carpooling, and it has been a blast every step of the way! It's really interesting how 3 random strangers can become the best of friends just by carpooling! Every morning/evening there would always be a topic that we would all debate about (which makes the ride a lot quicker and more interesting) - this definitely beats driving alone! We also took the initiative to plan out a year ahead with regards to who's driving which week to avoid any confusions and/or conflicts! What's the best part of my carpool, you ask? It's the fact that I save up to 2+ weeks’ worth of gas every month! Did I mention I lived 50 kms ONE WAY away from my work?? Thanks Smart Commute!! You saved my bank account!!

I have been walking to work for over a year now. I live about 3km from my workplace. It takes me about 30 minutes to walk to work in the morning. I usually take a longer route on my way home through Centennial Park which takes about 45 minutes. I truly enjoy walking to work because I love nature and I am able to see the seasons change which is a wonderful thing. I must say I am very lucky that I am able to do this.

I joined Smart Commute a few years ago and was amazed at how quickly and easily I was able to get online to find other commuters in the areas I work and live. I was able to find carpool matches on the Carpool Zone which not only saved us money, but helped the environment at the same time. I would highly recommend Smart Commute to anyone who is looking to do the same.

Our carpool has 5 (not very small) guys who all work at the same facility. We all take turns driving for one week which also includes buying each other the morning coffee. Although some weeks the ride can be a little cramped we still enjoy our morning gab as well as listening to stump the chump on Q107. The ride home is a little quieter as some of us dose off. Overall, we all enjoy each other’s company and because we drive in from Barrie we save a lot of mileage on our cars as well as money!

I have been very fortunate to be part of a carpool arrangement since my first day of work at the City of Mississauga. Being part of a carpool has definite advantages in our peak commuting hours. On weekday mornings there is nothing better than cruising along in the Eastbound 403 HOV lane between Winston Churchill and Mavis, while so many single drivers are stuck in long traffic hold ups. Going home, the HOV lanes on the 403 and QEW are always moving well. We save on gas, wear and tear on our vehicles, and get a great break on shared monthly parking costs. Thanks Smart Commute for providing a service to educate people, help partner up commuters, relieve traffic and parking congestion, and promote a Green Mississauga!

Carpool Zone first matched me up with a lady at the office building where I work. We really enjoyed the commute and were very flexible with each other’s schedules. My carpool partner retired in December. Carpool Zone then matched me up with another lady at work who was 100% match. The funny thing is that we had never met. She works one floor directly above me and lives walking distance from my home. The commute just flies by because we have so much to talk about while driving to and from work! Carpooling has been a great experience! The commute is fun, less stressful and I have more money in my pocket to spend on other things since I am not putting as much gas in the fuel tank.

SCM has proven to be an invaluable business partner in helping us plan and implement the relocation of over 1,400 of our Customer Contact Centre employees to Mississauga. From the outset, they demonstrated a genuine desire to gain a true understanding of both the needs of our business, and those of our employees, and share with us their deep insights about commuting options for our employees. Their well-designed approach to researching and analysing the commuting needs of our employees provided us with valuable insights as we worked collaboratively to build our action plan. Throughout the process, the entire Smart Commute Mississauga team has also played a pivotal role in helping us raise employee awareness of the variety of Smart Commute services available including the Carpool Zone and Emergency Ride Home program. We're proud of the partnership we have with Smart Commute Mississauga and truly appreciative of the great work the organization does.
