Bicycles on Transit

YRT Policy (also applies for TTC routes operating north of Steeles)

You may take a bicycle on any YRT/Viva bus on a Saturday, Sunday, or statutory holiday. On weekdays, due to rush-hour crowding, you may not bring bicycles on YRT/Viva buses during the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Bring your bicycle with you on any YRT/Viva route and you pay your regular fare but your bike rides for free!

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to load your bike

  1. Get ready – prepare your bike by removing any loose items such as water bottles
  2. Lower the rack – use your free hand to squeeze the handle at the top of the rack to unlock and lower it
  3. Load your bike – load your bike from the curb side of the bus. Lift your bike into one of the racks two wheel trays
  4. Secure the front wheel – secure your bike by pulling the spring-loaded support arm out and over the front tire

Now you’re ready to ride!

GO Transit Policy

You may take a bicycle on any GO Train on a Saturday, Sunday, or statutory holiday. On weekdays, due to rush-hour crowding, you may not bring bicycles on trains scheduled to arrive at Union Station between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. or depart from Union Station between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Bicycles are also prohibited inside Union Station during those times. Bicycles are not allowed on wheelchair-accessible train cars or on GO Buses (on GO Buses, a folding bicycle in a proper carrying case can be put in the under floor luggage compartment if the bus has one).
